  AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The Dutch Central Bank says an organisation founded by Beatles guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has not violated the law by issuing and using its own currency in the Netherlands.

  The Global Country of World Peace organisation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, an Indian mystic living in the small southern Dutch village of Vlodrop, issued brightly coloured notes of one, five and 10 "raam" last October.

  The bank, which said on Saturday it would investigate the currency, said on Tuesday it had received no indications that any laws were violated.

  "It is within the boundaries of the law...as long as the Maharishi doesn't suggest that this is legal tender and it doesn't resemble the euro," central bank spokesman Tobias Oudejans said.

  "There is a closed circuit; transactions can only be made at certain shops," he added.

  The Maharishi brought "transcendental meditation" to the West more than 40 years ago. Among his six million followers worldwide have been the Beatles, who famously travelled to India in 1968 to meditate with him.

  Most of the "raam" currency notes are distributed in the Netherlands, where more than 100 shops accept them at a fixed rate of 10 euros per raam.

  The Global Country of World Peace also aims to use it as a type of "currency", which would not be legal tender, to help people barter goods and services as part of its aid programmes in developing countries.

  I would guess that that is a subjective matter. Perhaps some KKKers thought they were! They were angry about the emergence of Civil Rights laws and took it out on the church to show them how to "stay in their place" in Society. I do realize that Worf is talking about "what goes around comes around" but violence is still not the way that it should be paid back. Now the guys or girls that did this to the Kingdom Hall will now have to face their own karma.

  Bin Laden - Do you think he's right after all?

  im not trying to offend anybody , im just trying to find out what you guys really think about bin laden.

  of course there are the obvious things to count against him ;- the fact that he probably murdered thousands of people on september 11th , and maybe even before then.

  Bin Laden's full of himself, just like the other fanatical Islamic extremists. He's a power hungry and evil man. He believes that by declaring a jihad on Americans, that we will change just like that. <snap> There's plenty of things wrong with those countries: half of their population are treated as nothing more than chattel, to be used and abused and thrown away like so much garbage. They are terrified, ostracized and inhumanely murdered when they make a mistake and become pregnant before marriage. That's not good, of course, but doesn't seem to justify senseless slaughter.

  Timothy McVeigh wasn't a Muslim, and he is just as bad, if not worse, than Bin Laden because he knowingly did it to his fellow countrymen! He had a lot of the same ideas as bin Laden. They are both evil men.

  i'm seeking to connect with anyone in southeast texas to mideast texas area that's disf'd or disa'd

  it's always good to find others who understand where we've been without having to explain or rehash everything we've done or said that may seem eccentric to someone who hasn't "been there" .

  it would be nice to meet others with an "in common" background and enough chutzpah to leave the xjw baggage in the closet most of the time.

  Remembering an Old Friend

  as most all of you know, i am a vietnam veteran, serving with c troop 7/17th air cavalry from july of 1969 to january 1, 1971. i have heard before that the bond formed by combat veterans is forever.

  i can now say that is a true statement.

  when first assigned to c troop, i met a man by the name of ron strickland and we hit it off as buddies, becoming best friends, in my estimation.

I was only a little girl.. but I can NOT possibly imagine what you boys went through in Nam.. and to comtemplate it now just only makes me awed. I am *so* glad that you found your friend again.. IN fact, I am SO ELATED! Friends like that are hard to find.. and when you do find them you sould treat them like brothers.   it was just brought to my attention that herbert armstrong and the worldwide church of god are yet another "only us" religion.

  have any of you ever studied him and his teachings and found similarities to the wt and gb?

  this could prove helpful to me as my jw friend is familiar with armstrong having attended there as a child.

  As a kid how did you survive the meetings?

  recently my brother, sister, and i talked for the first time about how we survived the meetings when we were kids.

  i loved hearing their stories.. i had a whole imaginary world i went into.

  once the songs were over and the talk started, i would focus on the speaker to look like i was listening and then zone out.

  Stared at the mural behind the podium and imagined all the animals walking by. Pinching my brother and making him cry so I could take him out to the second school. Drawing with a pen on my brothers' arms. Picking five words out of the Bible and trying to rearrange them into a sentence. Staring at elders and making them uncomfortable. Sleeping. You name it.
